Going to the toilet on Snowdon

There have been lots of stories this weekend about toilet problems on Snowdon. This isn’t a new problem however the issues being reported over the bank holiday Easter weekend are hugely exaggerated. We work closely with the Snowdonia National Park volunteer wardens and are out regularly throughout the season chatting to hikers and picking up litter. Thankfully it’s very rare that we come across the problems being talked about currently.

However we do understand that if you’re planning on climbing Snowdon you’re likely to need to ‘go’ at some point during your adventure. So we thought we’d share some tips about how to go to the toilet when hiking up Snowdon.

NNAS Navigation Training in the Peak District

It was a weekend of different weathers in the Peak District as seven amateur navigators signed up to improve their map and compass skills with MountainXperience.

On Saturday morning we met in the sunshine at the fabulous Penny Pot Cafe in Edale where the group enjoyed breakfast. The objective for the weekend was to complete the Silver NNAS Navigator Award. Six of the group had already completed their Bronze award with us so it was great to see them back again.

Do I need walking boots to climb Snowdon?

What to wear on your feet when you’re climbing Snowdon is a common question we get asked here at MountainXperience so we’d thought we put together a blog post with some useful information.

Each of Snowdon’s six main footpaths are well looked after by Snowdonia National Park and charitable bodies such as the Snowdonia Society. The paths are built to withstand the traffic and are regularly maintained throughout the year. With around three-quarters of a million hikers walking the paths each year, they certainly have to be! However don’t be expecting smooth, tarmac paths to the summit. Snowdon’s footpaths are a mixture of shale, scree and rocks.
