Our Safeguarding for Outdoor Instructors course will provide you with an understanding of this essential topic which can be used in your workplace, activity group or any instance where you might come into contact with children, young people or adults at risk.
The Level 1 Award in Awareness of Safeguarding qualification is regulated by Ofqual and gives you the knowledge to identify a safeguarding concern, record a disclosure and report to the appropriate person. The course is perfect for anyone working in the outdoors whether you regularly work alongside children, young people or adults at risk or just for your own Continuing Personal/Professional Development.
The award is ideal for those with outdoor instructor qualifications such as Mountain Leader, Rock Climbing Instructor, Paddlesports Instructor, etc. 0.5 CPD points are available for members of Mountain Training Association (MTA), Association of Mountaineering Instructors (AMI) and British Association of International Mountain Leaders (BAIML).
Courses are delivered online in a friendly, relaxed manner by experienced outdoor professionals. We keep jargon to a minimum and learning is through discussion and shared ideas rather than just listening.
Your course fee includes a high quality, comprehensive safeguarding e-book which we’ll refer to during the course and will be used for the short, self-study element.

This course is delivered online using the Zoom software so you can participate from anywhere with an Internet connection.
Our Safeguarding for Outdoor Instructors course is NOT eLearning. It is a live, interactive course delivered by a qualified safeguarding instructor. Many NGBs insist that safeguarding training be delivered in this way rather than a simple online tick-box exercise.
Of course! The Level 1 Award in Awareness of Safeguarding is regulated by Ofqual. The qualification does not have an expiry date but keeping up to date with changes to policies, procedures and new legislation through ongoing CPD is vital.
We always recommended that you attend annual refresher training.
0.5 CPD points are available for members of Mountain Training Association (MTA), Association of Mountaineering Instructors (AMI) and British Association of International Mountain Leaders (BAIML).

Mountain Training:
Whilst there is no formal requirement for holders of Mountain Training qualifications to undergo safeguarding training, it is recommended that such training is undertaken regularly. Mountain Training does however insist that all course directors and tutors attend suitable training in safeguarding children and young people.
British Canoeing:
Candidates who have contact with children and/or adults at risk are required to provide evidence of at least 3 hours’ of interactive (not eLearning) Safeguarding training (within the last 3 years).
