Navigation Skills for Families

Navigation Skills for Families

Being able to look after you and your family in the hills and mountains of the UK doesn’t have to be just your responsibility. Why not get the whole family involved and share the load … and the fun? Learning to read a map and use a compass are essential outdoor skills that adults and children of any age can learn.

The National Navigation Award Scheme is a personal performance qualification suitable for all ages to learn navigation skills and gain confidence to get out and enjoy the British countryside. Our courses take place over a weekend and are designed to keep the interest of both adults and children with fun and active sessions out and about in the hills. The ‘classroom’ sessions are deliberately kept short to allow the most amount of time actually ‘doing’.

Do I need to queue on Snowdon's Crib Goch

Do I need to queue on Snowdon’s Crib Goch?

If you’ve been shocked by photos like this taken over the weekend you might well be thinking that the popular Snowdon scrambling route isn’t for you. North Wales newspaper, The Daily Post reported Picture shows huge queues forming along Snowdonia’s notorious Crib Goch ridge and Wales Online ran the same image proclaiming The huge queue on a notorious ridge in Snowdonia as visitors flock to see 1,000ft drop.

Thankfully it’s very rare that we come across the problems being talked about currently.

However we do understand that if you’re planning on climbing Snowdon you’re likely to need to ‘go’ at some point during your adventure. So we thought we’d share some tips about how to go to the toilet when hiking up Snowdon.
