MountainXperience is pleased to announce that we’re now able to offer the prestigious Gold Navigator Award from the National Navigation Award Scheme.

The Gold Navigator Award builds on the skills acquired at the Bronze and Silver levels and adds techniques for dealing with complex contour features both large and small.

Candidates will be expected to accurately plan and follow a route, judge distance and check their progress against time all whist using appropriate compass skills and maintaining continuous map contact. In addition you’ll learn how to use back bearings and transits to help confirm your current position and understand how aspect of slope can be used as an aid to relocation.

Training and assessment takes place in small groups (maximum 1:4) over a weekend in the Peak District. The courses tend to take place during the winter to give candidates the best chance to experience night navigation.

The Gold NNAS Navigator Award can only be delivered by course directors who have plenty of advanced navigation experience and have also been on a special NNAS run workshop in tutoring Gold courses. MountainXperience is proud to be able to offer these courses.
