If you’ve ever fancied walking in the mountains in the winter then you’ll need to be able to master walking in snow and ice.

There’s no doubt that the mountains are beautiful in wintertime but they can also be a dangerous place for the uninitiated. Being able to move safely over mountain terrain that might be covered in snow or ice is an essential skill to have if you want to be able to walk all year round.

Our winter skills courses are a great way to learn the essential skills you will need to safely enjoy the mountains during the winter months. Whether you’d like to feel more confident moving on snow and ice, or have plans for a bigger, international expedition, our Winter Skills course is a great first step.

Our courses are run by qualified and experienced winter mountaineers. The course takes place entirely outdoors and covers a range of topics including the use of crampons and ice axe, navigating in winter conditions and avalanche awareness. You’ll look at how to prepare for winter walking as well as what you’ll need to wear and carry with you.
