If you’re planning to Climb Snowdon with MountainXperience some time in the future then you might be wondering how you can best prepare for your adventure. Well wonder no more as we give you five top tips to make your experience enjoyable. Even taking on board these tips the week before your big day out can make a big difference.
- Go walking. It might sound daft but the best thing you can do to prepare for your Snowdon hike is to get out walking. Get off the bus a stop early, head out at lunchtime instead of sitting at your desk, walk the kids to school rather than driving. All these little things will get your body used to moving.
- Try walking uphill. We often chat to hikers who tell us they regularly walk ten miles at the weekend but if that’s along the canal or around local fields it’s not going to help your legs prepare for the highest mountain in the country. Find your local hill and try walking up and down a few times.
- Be as fit as you can. You don’t need to be a sporting superstar or even a regular exerciser but your day will definitely be easier the fitter you are.
- Squats and lunges really do help. Yes everyone hates them but they’ll make coming down the mountain so much easier. You don’t need to do hundreds. Try doing a couple one day, then add an extra one the next day. If you can do ten in one go before you hit Snowdon you’ll be ready.
- Eat breakfast. Even if you’re not normally a big morning eater your body is going to need extra energy for this challenge so be sure to eat a good breakfast before your hike. Don’t be tempted to skip it as you’ll regret it by the time you’re half way up the mountain.
